Arrests Up Thanks to You

By: Tim Johnston
Updated: February 27, 2009

The Crime Stoppers tip line is leading to more arrests and you, the viewer, are to thank.

The Wheel of Misfortune, it's been a feature every Wednesday night on KRBC, and in it's four month run so far it seems to be working.

"It has really taken off and we've had people call in and say 'hey we're watching this and we want to see if we can catch somebody,'" shares Detective Rick Dorman.

Already the wheel has brought in tips that have lead to seven arrests, and two other fugitives turned themselves in after seeing themselves on the wheel.

"The week before we had one captured right off the wheel, and the tips were coming in. We want people to continue to call Crime Stoppers."

Detective Dorman says this wheel has not only been a big help in finding fugitives, but also for putting information out for the public.

"We're up on all of our new tips, we've received over 41% new tips this year versus last year, in the same time period, and we're up 87% in our arrests," says Dorman.

He goes on to say that the community can play a vital role in Police work. "It's extremely important because we only have so many Police Officers, and there is only so many pairs of eyes. So, the community can be a very big help to our Crime Stoppers program."

With all of the recent success, he hopes that this will only continue to grow. "We want to see this continue and we want people to call in to our tip line [676-TIPS]. You will remain totally anonymous, we want your information not your name."
