Wildfire Update

Fire updateThe Texas Forest Service reports one active wildfire in the Big Country.

That fire is the Wright Fire in Jones County. The fire started Friday and has burned 50 acres and is now 75% contained.

The Buckhorn Fire in Brown County burned 110 acres today (Saturday) and is now 90 percent contained.

The service also reports the following:

Rhodes Fire, southwest of Abilene in Taylor County burned 3,024 acres after starting on Wednesday. That fire is 75% contained and is now classified as a carry over fire, along with two other fires.

Clyde fire, in Callahan County, started on Wednesday and has consumed 700 acres. It is considered 95% contained.

King Edmonson Fire in Runnels County started on Wednesday and has burned 500 acres. It is 85% contained.

The National Weather Service reports that the fire danger will subside slightly on Sunday as wind speeds will be less than 10 miles per hour. The danger will increase again on Monday as wind speeds are forecast to increase and relative humidity levels will fall again to 10 percent or less. Elevated fire weather conditions will also exist Wednesday and Thursday.
