Texas Teachers Face Drug Testing

State Representative Ken Legler filed House Bill 975 in January that requires professional educators to be tested for drugs.
Legler said he was surprised to learn there was no such requirement, since half of all businesses across the country drug test job candidates.
Gayle Fallon of the Houston Federation of Teachers said some may required testing, but doesn't think it should be mandatory. Such a move simply insults teachers, Fallon said.
The bill could become law if passed by the House and Senate. It that happens, it will probably become effective later this year.
