Finding Aid To Pay For College

By: Maria Oliver
Updated: March 2, 2009
It's that time again when high school seniors are getting ready to head off for college in the Fall but with the hard economic times, how will families pay for it?

Hendrick Medical Center, First Abilene Federal Credit Union, Arrow Ford, along with other local sponsors are hosting Tune into Finances, a financial forum for seniors.

The forum will teach seniors in high school to manage their bank accounts, deal with credit cards, financing items such as cars, and how to apply for college financial aid.

"They have to prepare themselves for the real world so we just want them to come and learn a little bit and know what choices to make when they go out to the real world," says Ashley Phillips, First Abilene Federal Credit Union.

The forum will be held Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hendrick Medical Center's Shelton Building in the Auxiliary Conference Room.

Abilene and Cooper High School will also host financial seminars.

Abilene High School's FASFA Filing and Financial Aid workshop will be Tuesday, March 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the LRC.
Cooper High School's workshop will be held Thursday, March 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Cooper's COOL Advisor, Will Medina says to bring your W-2 and completed tax returns in order to be able to fill out FAFSA forms.
