Before the Mulberry Creek fire was under control, it was headed toward Buffalo Gap. Rather than wait for disaster to strike, residents are doing everything they can to prevent wildfires from wreaking havoc in their town. The Air-Land Emergency Resource Team has been brought in to help Buffalo Gap fight wild fires. Rather than fight the fire when it gets there, they are working to prevent them.
Officials with the team say the land around Buffalo Gap has been mismanaged, and now it time to fix it.
Their project is three fold. Clearing fuel makes the community safer from fire. Clearing the creek helps to prevent flooding and trimming the oak trees helps to prevent oak wild from coming into Buffalo Gap.
The project has been in the works for the last five years, and is rapidly advancing with help from the alert team.
