Texans Cutting Back On Electricity Usage

By: Chris Whited, KRBC News
Updated: March 4, 2009
Texans are pulling the plug and turning out the lights, literally, in order to save money in this troubled economy. The state's two largest electric delivery companies report that usage was down during the later half of 2008.

Oncor, the largest company which provides services to several areas of the Big Country, reported a 4-percent decline in electricity usage among its customers in the final quarter of last year. The other power company, CenterPoint Energy, which serves areas of the Gulf Coast and southern areas of the state reported their company had seen a decline of about 8-percent.

Electric usage was also down across the United States, by about 2.4-percent.
