URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANGELO TX 201 PM CDT WED MAR 11 2009 ...A FEW ICY SPOTS MAY DEVELOP TONIGHT ACROSS THE FAR WESTERN BIG COUNTRY AND NORTHWESTERN CONCHO VALLEY... .STRONG ISENTROPIC LIFT IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO TONIGHT ACROSS MUCH OF WEST CENTRAL TX IN RESPONSE TO AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL TROUGH. AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT PUSHED THRU THE AREA LAST NIGHT AND THIS FRONT HAS BROUGHT MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES IN THE 30S ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY AND THE PERMIAN BASIN. SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL TO NEAR THE FREEZING MARK TONIGHT AS PRECIPITATION FALLS INTO SOME DRIER AIR NEAR THE SURFACE OVER THE WESTERN BIG COUNTRY AND NORTHWESTERN CONCHO VALLEY. TEMPERATURES ALOFT APPEAR TO SUPPORT A MIX OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN IF FISHER-NOLAN-STERLING-COKE-HASKELL-JONES- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...ROTAN...ROBY...SWEETWATER... STERLING CITY...ROBERT LEE...BRONTE...HASKELL...STAMFORD... ANSON...HAMLIN ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM CDT THURSDAY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SAN ANGELO HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM CDT THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO DROP TO NEAR FREEZING TONIGHT AS PRECIPITATION FALLS INTO SOME DRIER AIR NEAR THE SURFACE OVER THE WESTERN BIG COUNTRY AND NORTHWESTERN CONCHO VALLEY. A MIXTURE OF RAIN AND FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET IS EXPECTED WHICH COULD CREATE A FEW SLICK SPOTS ON BRIDGES...OVERPASSES AND ELEVATED SURFACES. SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATION IS NOT EXPECTED. ROADWAYS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN TOO WARM DUE TO THE RECENT WARM WEATHER FOR ICE TO ACCUMULATE. PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO COME TO AN END BY EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY SPOTS ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
