The Abilene Ruff Riders have signed Quincy Carter to join the team. They'll make it official on Friday at a 12:30pm press conference. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback played three seasons with the team, was released, and signed for one season with the New York Jets.
Carter has indoor football experience, playing for one season (2007) with the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings, a franchise in the AF2.
While with the Battlewings he was suspended for four games for skipping practice, and his one-year contract was not renewed.
Carter's NFL stats:
Started 31 games with Dallas
Played 7 games with Jets
Completed 542 of 960 passes
6,337 passing yards
32 touchdown passes
37 interceptions
Carter also has a history with the law. He was arrested for marijuana possession and DWI two weeks ago in Mission, Texas. He has two prior arrests for marijuana possession from Shreveport (2007) and Irving (2006).
During an exclusive interview with KRBC's Michelle Dapper, Carter said it would be silly to act like his personal problems are behind him since he was arrested two weeks ago in South Texas. However, Carter plans to take full advantage of this new opportunity and prove he still has "it."
The public is invited to attend Friday's 12:30pm press conference at the Coleman County State Bank at 4609 Southwest Drive in Abilene. Ruff Riders staff members, players, and coaches will be in attendance for questions and interviews.
