Abilene's unemployment rate's now more than five percent; up almost a full percentage point from last month.

People are being laid off all over the country, and with so many being laid off, it's difficult for anyone to get a job.

I spoke with one women with 3 different degrees and over 20 years of experience and she is still finding it difficult to get back.

Because of an industry slow down, Gina Bunker was one of 11 employees laid off from the Abilene Reporter News around Thanksgiving.

She's been searching for a job for around 3 months, and while she hasn't been hired, it's not because she isn't qualified.

Even those that have a job are finding work life difficult because they are considered underemployed.

Gina says that it's getting to the point where she'll take any job.

The Workforce Commission helps not only those that have been laid off, but businesses who are having to lay off their employees.

They ask if a business is about to make some layoffs, to contact them so that they can work together.

Workforce Solutions says that there are still employers looking to hire, especially in the medical field and the prison systems.
