If you ask any 3rd grader what they're looking forward to this year and they'll probably tell you Safety City.

Safety City started in the 1980's as a way to teach children about safety while they were out riding their bikes.

The program has grown and includes pedestrian, bike and vehicle safety along with fire safety.

The buildings have not been updated to keep up with it's growing needs and are looking to raise money to make some changes.

Sargent Keith Shackleford says, "our facilities from 1981 are way too small, we have kids sitting on the floor. So what we're trying to do is get the fire building and the police building built so can actually handle more kids."

To raise money they are holding a Clay Sporting Event next Saturday, March 21. You can sign up at the Mall of Abilene and Wal-Mart or you can call Safety City at (325) 676-6096.

The entry fee is $150 per shooter and includes 100 targets per shooter, lunch, a t0shirt, and drawing ticket.

The shooting times are 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
