Stricter Gun Control Laws?

In May of 2007 a Chicago teen was tragically murdered when another teen opened fire on a city bus. Blair Holt was just 16 when he moved to shield a girl from the spray of bullets and was struck in the abdomen and died. At Holt's funeral, Representative Bobby Rush of Illinois promised to honor Holts memory with a new tougher gun bill.
The Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 has many fire arm owners worried. The bill proposes that to be in possession of any handguns or any semiautomatic firearms that the owner would have to be issued a firearm license. The owner would then have to register not only the gun, but himself.
Most crimes caused by guns, like the murder of Blair Holt, are caused by criminals using unlicensed guns, so those against the bill argue that this new law would just make it harder for law abiding citizens to get a gun.
The Blair Holt Bill does not have any co-sponsors which makes it very unlikely that it will ever be brought to vote before congress.
So while the 80 million US citizens that own firearms need to be aware of the bill, it is not likely that it will take affect anytime soon.
