Nearly $1 Billion In Drought Losses

By: Chris Whited, KRBC News

Losses to the states farmers and ranches during this on-going drought are approaching one-billion dollars. The Texas AgriLife Extension Agency reports cattle producers in the state have lost over $850-million dollars in the last year.

Most of the money losses came from farmers and ranches purchasing feed for their livestock. The agency stated that over half of the beef cattle in the state are located in areas listed as at severe stage or worse on the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Last week's rains in the state did little to help improve the drought.
