10 pm Update:

Fire command reports that the fire is 100% contained. In all, about 500 acres were scorched. The Texas Forest Service will check the area Wednesday morning to make sure it doesnt flare up again.

Volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the wrong area, which prevented them from getting to the fire until much later than expected.

5:45 Update:

The Texas Forest Service has responded with a Helitanker, two task forces of dozers, and engines.

The fire is currently moving at about 30 MPH to the east/north east.

Original Story:

A grass fire dubbed the "Hailey Fire" is burning near the northeast end of Lake Fort Phantom Hill, in southwestern Shackleford County.

The smoke could be seen for miles, but it took volunteer firefighters quite a while to get the actual flames because of the rough terrain.

Volunteers from Leuders, Hamby and Hawley were sent to the area about 3:30 p.m.

The area is mostly pasture land, but we are told one structure was threatened.
