The Food Bank of West Central Texas is getting a slice of a $1 million grant from the Beaumont Foundation of America.

The $30,000 check will be presented at the Food Bank this afternoon.

The $1 million grant is split between 19 regional food banks in Texas which are members of Feeding America.

"The Beaumont Foundation's gift to Food Bank of West Central Texas is essential to our childhood hunger program, BackPacks for Kids," said Jody Houston, the Food Bank's executive director in a press release. "This grant will allow us maintain the established Backpacks for Kids program" she said. "Many of our sites were started with grant money from Beaumont Foundation that we received in 2007 and 2008".

The Backpacks for Kids program sends backpacks full of food home with children for the weekend when school breakfasts and lunches aren't available.
