Latest Drought Update After Recent Rains

The latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that the rain we saw across the Big Country last week did not help improve our drought status. Areas north of I-20 remain classified under "severe" stage drought conditions. The only area to see some improvement was across the Heartland. These areas saw the most rain out of the two rain events late last week. According to the monitor, the Heartland has dropped back down from "extreme" to "severe" stage drought conditions.
Interesting to note the U.S Drought Monitor update this week shows that all 254-counties in Texas and 100% of the state is experiencing some form of drought. Drought losses in the state are approaching $1-billion according to recent state agricultural news.
