McMurry University will hold a bone marrow screening for the National Bone Marrow Registry to help locate a bone marrow donor for the relative of an Abilene pastor.

Jay Pronk, 31, is a dental school teacher at the University of Iowa has has battled lymphocytic leukemia for more than two years.  His treatments have run their course, and a bone marrow treatment is his only option, according to Gary Ellison, associate director of university relations at McMurry.

Students and minorities will be screened for free from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26 and 27 in the Campus Center at McMurry.  Screening involves a cheek swab.  Anyone else can be screened for $52.  Registering to be a donor means agreeing to donate to whoever they match.

Pronk is the son-in-law of Clyde Kieschnick of Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene.
