Air Force Blogs About "C-17 Crash"

The Air Force immediately took to blogs and twitter following reports of a C-17 crash Monday morning. The following was posted on the official U.S. Air Force Blog.Mainstream media reports from various news outlets and posts from microblogs, like Twitter, were completely inaccurate today regarding an alleged C-17 crash in Texas. We’ve personally talked with officials in the Pentagon and Air Mobility Command Headquarters and have no reports of a cargo aircraft down. We’ll update if anything has happened.
UPDATE: Officials from Altus AFB, Okla. provided this statement:
It is common for some aircraft to fly low level in the Olney, Texas area and it was a normal day of flying at Altus Air Force Base, Okla. All aircraft assigned to the 97th Air Mobility Wing have been accounted for at this time. Altus Air Force Base aircraft were not involved in any crashes or incidents today.
The question that remains is why did someone at Sheppard Air Force Base confirm the crash to CNN? If that confirmation hadnt happen, this story never wouldve gotten out in the first place.
