Updated: April 1, 2009
Gold's Gym is going to start offering free seven-day passes, health audits and exercise guides to anyone over 18 years old, as part of its so-called "Fitness Stimulus Package."

According to the company's calculations, the offer is worth $22 billion.

Every year, more than $1 trillion is spent on common diseases that could have been prevented through a healthy nutrition and exercise program, the company said in a press release.

"We're confident that our plan will help 'stimulate' people to get off the couch and take up a more active and healthy lifestyle," wrote Gold's Gym Abilene owner Leroy Salas.
