TAKS reading scores remained pretty steady in Abilene public schools compared to last year, based on preliminary scores reported this week.In March, 91 percent of AISD third graders passed the reading portion of the TAKS test, down two percentage points from last year.
Among fifth graders, 85 percent passed and 95 percent of eighth graders passed ― the same percentages as last year.
"Our scores are inline with our scores from last year and of course they are ahead of statewide averages, so we are pleased with the outcome of that we have reported at this time," said David Baum, Testing Coordinator for AISD.
The statewide passing rates were 89 percent for third grade, 83 percent for fifth grade and 93 percent for eighth grade.
Meanwhile, scores in Wylie ISD were slightly higher than last year's numbers: 98 percent of third graders passing, compared to 97 percent last year; 97 percent of fifth graders passing this year and last year; and 99 percent of eighth graders passing, compared to 98 percent last year.
Students who did not pass will be retested and the final scores released in June are expected to be higher for all school districts.
