Merkel Fire 80 Percent Contained

 Firefighters are still hoping to contain a grass fire that broke out Sunday south of Merkel.

Crews were called out to Farm Road 126 and 1085.

Texas Forest Service was called with air attack and dozers.

Several volunteer fire departments were out there helping including Nolan, View, Mulberry Canyon, Merkel and Trent.

135 acres have burned so far and 11 structures were threatened.

The fire is about 80 percent contained at this hour and the Forest Service has left the scene.

Local volunteer crews are mopping up
