Texas Drought Impacting Wildlife

By: Chris Whited, KRBC News
Updated: April 7, 2009
It's not just crops but also wildlife that is seeing a major impact from the prolonged drought across the state. Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists report the on-going drought is causing die-offs of wildlife such as whooping cranes, wild turkeys and deer.

The spring turkey hunting season opened this past weekend and hunters are reporting fewer wild turkeys being seen in the local hunting areas. Dead deer have been reporting to our south in areas of the Concho Valley and the Edwards Plateau.

The drought is making food sources scarce across the area for wildlife, not to mention lack of water supplies in spots.
