It's been an Abilene tradition for the past 27 years, and after taking a short break last year, Pioneer Drive's Easter Pageant is back with a brand new script, new special effects and more.
Carolyn Newman was involved with the first Pioneer Easter pageant and remembers is fondly.
Now, 27 years later, she still finds a special joy from being involved in the pageant.
The play's writer, Lance Fleminz agrees.
Fleminz says, "You can't help but to be affected by the spirit that is in this room, that is in this building. So, I think that it is a renewing time for everyone that is apart of this."
The script that Lance wrote is new to the play, but it's not the only thing different than in previous years, so whether you've never been before, or if you have seen the previous 26 productions, this weekend's showing of "the promise" is sure to be enjoyable for everybody in the family.
Pioneer Drive's Easter Pageant, "The Promise" has three more performances at the Civic Center.
One is tonight at 7:30 p.m., another Friday also at 7:30, and the final performance Saturday at 3.
For free tickets, you can call the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church at 692-6776.
