Championship Bass Fisherman Brian Schmidt recommends a few basic baits for all fishermen to have in their tackle box.A crank bait with an internal rattle is a good bait to fish around grass beds, or in open water. It is heavy, and can be cast a long distance. Crank baits can be brought back with a steady, or a hesitating retrieve.
Spinner baits come in various sizes, but are very versatile. They can be fished around heavier cover than crank baits, and can also be used with different retrieve speeds.
Soft plastic baits come in a variety of colors and lengths. Schmidt recommends plastic baits when fishing around heavy cover or around rugged structure.
