The final moments came and passed.

Post offices in Abilene posted signs warning people about the ten o'clock deadline to get their taxes sent off.

As always, some scrambled to get their taxes in by the deadline.

And some people may not have been ready tax deadline day. At that late stage, filing an extension was their only option.

Accountants at Liberty Income Tax in Abilene worked late up until midnight helping people get their taxes done before the deadline. But if you didn't get them done, there is a price to pay.

Cynthia Rodriguez, an office manager at Liberty, says that if people owe money and file their taxes late, a penalty will be attached to what is owed, and that interest rates can be steep.

But, if taxpayers are owed money by the government, they are allowed to come in late and file their tax returns at no extra cost.
