AT&T to Launch 3G Network in Abilene

By: Laura Kellerman
Updated: April 16, 2009
AT&T plans to launch its 3G network in Abilene, San Angelo and nine other markets by the end of the year.

3G wireless broadband is basically the "third generation" of telecom technology, better suited for transferring data to smart phones much faster than standard cellular telephone networks. Verizon was the first company to roll out 3G service in the U.S.

AT&T is also adding 130 new cell sites across the state to improve coverage in more areas.
