You might be hearing "happy earth day" around town today, and many schools in the Big Country took time to clean up and make a difference today.
Abilene High School's student council members took on trash around Abilene High this afternoon.
The group walked around campus and picked up all the trash they could find.
Meanwhile, Cooper High School students are also lending a hand in helping the environment.
Cooper students have been recycling paper since January and have collected more than six tons of paper.
One ton of paper can save 17 mature trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and 4100 kilowatt-hours of electricity among other things.
The school is proud to have reached six tons so quickly.
