"She said, 'are you a member of any type of a discount club?,'" Young recalls, "and I said, no. She said, 'well, do you have an AAA card?' and I said, 'yes,' and she said, 'you're entitled to a discount. '"
A discount of 30 percent on frames, lenses everything! Renee was pleasantly surprised.
"All those types of groups have discounts that you can take advantage of," says Edgar Dworsky, Consumer Expert for Consumer World.
Dworsky says whether it's AAA or AARP, or even your Alumni Association, people often don't realize or simply forget membership usually carries extra perks.
Dworsky says, "the discounts really are just far and wide."
On everything from hotel and rental car specials to discounts at major retail stores, to savings on electronics.
"All I had to do was to take the card out of my wallet," Young says, "so it would be crazy not to take advantage of something like that in the future."
Most major credit cards offer a variety of retail, travel and dining discounts including: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
