She's one of Abilene's most accomplished residents, and now the community is giving back to her. The Abilene Woman's Club has awarded the Legacy Award to Doctor Virginia Connally, honoring her at a Legacy Luncheon Thursday.
She was the first female physician in Abilene, with her own practice in 1940.
Her numerous accomplishments include being the first female chief of staff at Saint Ann's hospital and the Hendrick Medical Center, as well as the first female president of the Taylor-Jones Medical Society.
Though she has much to boast about, Dr. Connally remains humble about her many accolades.
Mayor Norm Archibald took the podium at the Legacy Luncheon, declaring a special day in her honor.
One thing Doctor Connally wants people to gain from her life is encouragement.
Doctor Connally received her bachelor's degree from Hardin Simmons University in 1933.
