Gas Prices Slowly Drop Across Texas

By: RNS Wire Service
Updated: May 1, 2009
Texans across the state are paying about one-dollar-60-cents less for a gallon of gasoline than they did at this time last year. AAA Texas spokesman Dan Ronan says there isn't much demand for gasoline, and there are ample supplies of energy so that's keeping gas prices low. The national average is down a penny at two-dollars-five-cents a gallon.

The statewide average is at $1.94 a gallon, down about three-cents from last week. Amarillo has the most expensive gas in Texas at $1.96, down a fraction of a penny from last week. For the fourth week in a row, San Antonio is reporting the lowest average at one-90 a gallon, down nearly two-cents since last week. Dallas prices are averaging $1.95-cents, which is a drop of almost four-cents, while Houston motorists are paying three-cents less at $1.92 a gallon.

According to the gas tracker here on our website, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline at most Abilene gas stations is between $1.87 and $1.95. A few gasoline stations are selling gas for as high as $1.99.
