(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) When it comes to weight lifting, a strong plan can make the difference between success and failure.

"What they do is they learn teamwork, they learn collaboration, the learn how to follow a plan," said Dennis Snethen, a weight lifting coach at Interserv. "And then when they go to competitions that's how they evaluate the plan of what they've been doing."

Dennis Snethen works as a weight lifting coach and is the lone incumbent in this year's board election. It's a position he's learned from and would like to finish.
One of his goals is seeing the $42 million bond issue pass.

"I'd really like to leave the district in better shape then it was when I got there," said Snethen, sporting the "Yes to Jobs" pin on his track suit. "And I think this is a first step with the bond.

He's been helping kids succeed for 32 years as a youth director. Giving kids a chance for a better education and a chance to better themselves is what he strives to do.

"I think it starts with the bond," said Snethen. "If we get that passed, we're going to have two beautiful new schools. We haven't done that in 40 years."

After six years sitting on the school board, Snethen has already seen some of the struggles the board faces.

But growing with the changes and challenges is something this weight lifting coach knows all too well.

"It took a long time before I really understood all the ins and outs," said Snethen. "I still don't know everything. But I like to finish what I start. I don't want to quit in the middle."
