Abilene Rotary members got to hear from, Sam Madison who was a prisoner of war after World War II.

During the war, she and her family fled to escape Germany, only to get caught between Russian and German soldiers in battle.

Everyone in Sam's family, except for her mother and younger brother, would die as a result of the war.

Sam later came to the United States, became a citizen in 1968, and married Lee Madison, a Major in the U.S. Airforce.

The two lived in Abilene from 1971, until Lee's death last summer, and Sam has been here ever since.

Madison also played a large role in the growth of the Taylor-Jones Humane Society when she came to Abilene.
