Randall County Keeps Constable Seat

CANYON -- An attempt to get rid of a Rrandall county constable position is denied.

Precinct four constable Jeff Lester's request to have his seat declared dormant was voted down unanimously by county commissioners Tuesday.

Lester originally ran on a campaign promise to keep his office inactive so that after seven years, commissioners could declare it dormant, saving the taxpayers money.

However, commissioners refused that request, citing safety concerns as their number one issue.

Lester is on his way out as constable for precinct four because redistricting moved him to precinct one.  The constable seat there is held by Chris Tinsley.
