Some people compare summer in Texas to winter up north; a time to stay inside and hibernate.

Unfortunately, that means high electric bills.

Believe it or not, you can venture outside and stay cool at the same time, you just have to know where to look.

South Llano River State Park offers plenty of ways to stay cool.

During the summer, most park visitors enjoy water-oriented activities like swimming, tubing, or fishing.

Parks like Village Creek State Park in Lumberton offer canoe and kayak rentals.

Keeping cool isn't all about water.

At a mile above sea level Davis Mountains State Park in West Texas has sky-high views and virtually no humidity.

Even in the summer, temperatures might get down to the 50's, and daytime highs are usually not above 90 degrees.

Even with this hot weather, Texans are encouraged to get out of the house, and enjoy the many great Texas State Parks where you can have fun, stay cool, and not spend a lot of money.
