STURGEON BAY, Wis. (WFRV)-- The latest polls from Marquette University show Governor Walker and Tom Barrett in a dead heat.
Among registered voters Barrett has 47% of the vote compared to Walkers 46% percent. Walker told local fiveThursday that the polls don't worry him.
"For us polls are like the zippin pippin in Green Bay they go up they go down," said Walker.
Walker isn't letting the polls affect his mood or his campaign. At a ground breaking for an Anna's Health Care assisted living center in Sturgeon Bay, Walker focused on what he says is encouraging news.
He talked about a survey released Wednesday by Chief Executive Magazine, which ranked Wisconsin as the 20th best state to do business, up four spots from last year. The survey questions 650 corporate
CEO's.
"That's a good sign for us, if people look at that, if they look at the facts come election day, we'll be alright," said Walker.
Northeast Wisconsin has been a big focus of walker's campaign, sometimes making a few stops a week, in the past month.
"I almost live here, Mayor Schmitt kids me that he's going to start charging me an income tax for the amount of time spend working in Green Bay," said Walker.
In the 2010 election, Walker beat Barrett in every county in northeast Wisconsin, except Menominee. It was in an election year where republican voters turned out, and republicans swept the state, said St. Norbert political science professor Charlie Jacobs, and this recall is under much different circumstances.
"It's all going to be about turnout, whose going to turn out to the polls and in what numbers if the democrat nominee can get his or her supporters to the polls i think indications are from recent polls that are released that democrat has a good chance of defeating Governor Walker," said Jacobs.
Those chances aren't steering governor walker away from his message, that his economic policies are working and north east Wisconsin is a part of that.
"It's a key part of the states economy, if we're going to get Wisconsin working again," said Walker.
Tom Barrett told local five Wednesday he found the new poll numbers to be encouraging, though right now he's focused on securing the nomination on Tuesday.
At the groundbreaking for Anna's health care Governor Walker talked about how the facility will add about 175 jobs to the area and fill a need in the Door County Community.
