Campaign Billboard causing quite a stir

BELLEVUE, Wis. (WFRV) - It's a sign Richard Langan feels crosses the line. He's referring to a pro Scott Walker billboard up along Highway 172 in Bellevue that reads "Walker Fixed it. Let's not Falk it up. We couldn't Barrett."

Langan, the Brown County Democratic Party spokesman, said the play on words is in poor taste.

"I've been a policeman for over 30 years and I'll be the first one to defend your right to free speech," Langan explained. "but this is over the top. This speech should be reserved for the dignity of a bar room at midnight or something. It shouldn't be put up on a billboard."

Further, he's upset there is no written disclaimer stating who paid to put up the sign. He said that is a violation of campaign finance laws.

"Now we have an offensive sign that's an illegal sign also,' added Langan.

Local 5 contacted Jones Signs Co. and were told no one was available to comment. They did say, however, that they've getting a lot of calls about the billboard both negative and positive.

We spoke with a member of the Brown County Republican Party, Vern Krawczyk. He said he doesn't know anything about the sign or where it came from, and that the group have no further comment.

People we found passing by the sign were split on the issue.

"The intention is there," said one mother of two. "And the intention does imply the f-word and I find that offensive."

"It's amusing in a way and it's not too bad," said one man. "I think it should stay up."
