The Abilene High Eagles 2nd game of the season was supposed to be played last Friday, but Mother Nature had other ideas.

The Eagles game against Plano East was cancelled thanks to a lightning storm in and around Abilene that would not go away.

The Eagles and head coach Steve Warren are now getting ready for the 49th annual Crosstown Showdown with the Cooper Cougars.

This is the 2nd season the game has been a non-district contest, and coach Warren says that makes the sense of importance go down as far as the coaches are concerned.

The players, however, still want to beat their friends on the other side of town.

Abilene High has won the last 5 meetings between these 2 teams, but Cooper leads the series, 30-17-1.

The Crosstown Showdown is Friday night at Shotwell Stadium at 7:30.
