Abilene Going Green

By: Kailey Franz
Updated: September 24, 2009
The Abilene civic center is finally closing the door on overflowing garbage cans. They have replaced some of the old cans with new solar powered trash compactors.

The solar powered trash compactors are already present in many cities nation wide. Abilene has a total of two compactors and expects to see more in the near future.

The trash bags only need to be taken out every two weeks. Not only are these cans minimizing the amount of labor they are also minimizing the litter in the area.

The civic center is utilizing our natural resources to better the image of the community. Its another way Abilene is going green.
