U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman paid tribute to longtime Congressman John Paul Hammerschmidt Monday in celebration of his 90th birthday.
The republican from Arkansas represented the 3rd district for 26 years in congress before stepping down in 1993. Hammerschmidt was honored on the senate floor Monday in Washington for all of his achievements.
Along with his 13 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Hammerschmidt served in World War II and was instrumental in the creation of Interstate-540 and the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.
