People who live near a proposed coal powered electric generation plant near Sweetwater, are concerned about pollution that will be produced by the facility.

The company building the Tenaska Plant says new technology will make it safe.  Many energy producers are turning to coal as a replacement for natural gas because of unstable prices, that includes Tenaska.  Tenaska is a group proposing the new trailblazer energy center near Sweetwater.

Coal is a diverse, and cheap, fuel choice. There are growing concerns about the environmental impact of coal. Tenaska says its trailblazer plant will combined pulverized coal, and steam technology, to create a clean electricity generating system.

Tenaska tells us the plant will be the first of its kind to capture carbon dioxide emissions, and recycle them.  Those emissions are then put to a second use.

Tenaska officials feel if the plant comes to Sweetwater, it will be another example of how the Big Country is going green. Regardless of Tenaska's positive outlook, many residents are still opposed to the coal plant.

A final decision will be reached sometime next year.
