A rare and extraordinary feat performed by McMurry's junior wide
receiver Marcus Franklin Saturday against Texas Lutheran was rewarded by the American Southwest Conference Sunday night as Franklin was named the ASC Offensive Player of the Week. Freshman punter John Kawolski also earned a weekly award garnering the ASC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Franklin became just the second receiver in both McMurry and ASC history to catch four touchdown passes in a game. In fact, he was just the sixth player in the school's history to score four touchdowns in a game with the last time coming in 1972.

Franklin caught eight passes in the 36-23 win over Texas Lutheran in Seguin and tallied 149 yards to go along with his four touchdowns. He caught touchdown passes from 48, 37, 20 and 12 yards out helping McMurry quarterback Jake Mullin throw a career-high five touchdown passes.

Franklin tied the school record for touchdown receptions with four also accomplished by Dick Dunlap Sept. 17, 1937 against Southwestern Oklahoma. Franklin joined Bob Anthony (11/15/36), Dunlap, Elroy Payne (10/31/53), Ernie Davis (10/4/58 vs. TLU), and Sal Andrade (11/11/72) as the only players in McMurry history to score four touchdowns. Anthony, Payne and Davis are all members of the McMurry Athletics Hallof Honor.

Kawolski, the freshman from McAllen, recorded the highest punt average in a single game this year for the ASC when he tallied 261 yards on five punts for an average of 52.2 yards. His punt of 69 yards was the second longest punt in the ASC this year finishing behind McMurry's Mullin who punted for 70 yards earlier this season.

Franklin and Kawolski join Mullin who won the ASC offensive award Oct. 4 and Oct. 18.
