Five McMurry netters garner all-conference awards

RICHARDSON, Texas - Terah Brown highlighted McMurry's all-American Southwest Conference Volleyball selections Tuesday with her third-straight selection to the all-ASC volleyball team. She, along with four of her teammates were also honored with all-ASC West Division honors.McMurry finished its season Friday with a loss to Hardin-Simmons in the ASC Tournament semi-finals and finished the season with an 18-12 record. In addition to earning a selection on the combined-division all-conference team, Brown was a first-team all-ASC West selection along with freshman middle blocker M.J. Vickers.
Sarah Anding, Danielle Kelton and Bailey Marcum were all second-team all-ASC West selections for their performances as well. Marcum was named the ASC Newcomer of the Year, an award given to the most outstanding new player in the west division that wasn't a freshman.
Brown led the team in kills and total blocks in her junior season. She had 252 kills giving her 833 over three seasons. Her 109 blocks in 2009 made her McMurry's all-time leader in blocks with 383, and she passed Lyndsay Llewellyn's previous mark of 367 set from her time from the 2000-2003 seasons. Brown will have chance to put some major distance between her and Llewellyn in her final season in 2010.
Vickers, the freshman from Albany, led McMurry in hitting percentage with a .295 mark and was second on the team in kills and third in blocks. She had 245 kills in her rookie campaign and tallied 63 blocks. She also led all non-setters with 35 assists.
Anding had another solid season defensively in her junior season with 498 digs from the libero spot. With one season of college eligibility to spare, she move to second all-time on McMurry's digs list with 1,590 digs. In 2010, she'll need 258 digs to become the school's all-time leader in the category needing to pass Danielle Bolin's
(2001-2004) mark of 1,847.
Kelton wrapped up one of the best all-around careers in McMurry volleyball history Friday leaving as the only player in school history to record at least 1,000 kills and at least 1,000 digs. She finished her four-year career as a three-time all-conference selection. Kelton tied Sabrina Griffin for second all-time in career kills with 1,056 and was third all-time in digs with 1,488.
Marcum, the sophomore transfer from UT-Permian Basin, had 203 kills with a .211 hitting percentage and was second on the team with 70 blocks. Marcum also led the squad with 34 service aces.
