We always keep an eye out, that's our job," said Carol Rogers, Director of the Aldersgate Preschool. "As advocates for children."

Rogers and her employees are always on the lookout for evidence of abuse.

"Sometimes it's as simple as did they have breakfast, and sometimes it's more difficult as looking for bruises," Rogers said.

Yesterday, day care providers at an unnamed facility found that a 4 year old child was bleeding. They called authorities, and later  two were arrested. Daniel Crippen was charged with sexual assault of a child, and Lacik Wright was charged with failure to report the abuse. Rogers says she too has had to make calls to authorities to investigate abuse.

"It can be a really scary process to make the phone call," Rogers said.

Children at Rogers preschool are generally too young to speak up about abuse. Barbara Washam now helps at the preschool, but taught 6th grade for almost 30 years. She says whenever she suspected abuse, she sent the victim to talk to the counselor.

"Sometimes the children didn't want to talk because they were afraid to go home with a bad grade, a 'C,'" Washam said. "Because they would be beaten."

While it's hard to experience, both Washam and Rogers know they may be the only ones to report possible abuse.

"You have to reach out to children," Washam said. "And they will reach out to you."

They say a teachers love and intuition could one day save a childs life.
