(Springfield, MO)--The Springfield City Council has a busy day, topped off by a vote tonight on its newest member.

The Council meets in a special session at noon to certify the results of last Tuesday's election on repeal of the city's smoking ordinance.  The repeal was rejected by voters.

Later in the day, the group meets at 6:30 p.m.to vote on filling a vacant council seat.  General Seat A became vacant when Bob Stephens moved into the Mayor's seat when Jim O'Neal resigned last month.

Among the three finalists for Seat A are Arthur Hodge, Jan Fisk and Michael Carroll.  The current Council members will interview all three, then vote to select one of them.

Both the Council luncheon and special evening meeting are open to the public.
