The Wylie Bulldogs made their 3rd appearance in the Class 3A Division 1 state championship game this decade on Saturday... Wylie scored 457 points on the season and went to the playoffs for the 17th straight year and won a share of their 11th straight district title.
The Albany Lions are set to play in the state title game in Class A Division 2 this week. Albany knocked off defending state champion Stratford to earn their berth. The Lions rode the legs of Elijah Hudson to 640 points in 15 games. The Lions play Cayuga for the state crown on Saturday in Mansfield.
So far, the Goldthwaite Eagles are the only state champion from the area, and they are our 4th Team of the Year... The Eagles returned to the top this year by beating 2-time defending state champ Canadian. This year's Class A division 1 title is their 1st since back to back championships in 1993 and 94.
And finally to our team of the year in 6-man football. The Highland Hornets went back to the division 2 state championship game for the 1st time since 2000. The Hornets posted 5 shutouts in 2009 and 4 other teams only scored 1 time.
Highland, Abilene High, Wylie, Albany and Ggoldthwaite are the 2009 teams of the year.
