Herschel Sims is the KTAB Football Extreme Player of the Year.

In 2008, Herschel Sims, in limited opportunities, averaged 10  yards every time he touched the ball, so we thought he was good.

Now that he's helped lead Abilene High to the State Championship game, we know he's good.

Sims is the main offensive machine that is driving the Eagles to the State title game.

He has rushed for 2245 yards, 34 touchdowns, and he's found the end zone a total of 41 times.

The number on the field are remarkable, but almost as remarkable is the fact that he won't give himself the credit. Sims wants to give the credit to the offensive line and the coaches, and while they don't mind the praise, Brad Evans, AHS offensive lineman, says they don't have to do much because "Herschel is awesome."

Head coach Steve Warren says Sims learned a lot in his sophomore year on the bench, and now he has taken a leadership role with the team.

For his part, Sims says he's having a blast this season, and he wants a State Championship,
