We've been watching the oil spill clean up over at Nelson Park. Two days ago an oil tanker rolled over at Loop 322 and Highway 36. It spilled about 5000 gallons of used motor oil. Workers have been trying to keep the oil from going into the lake at Nelson Park, but they've been unsuccessful.

Today we are reporting that now it has made it's way into the lake at Nelson Park. The company from Houston is here doing the clean up. Now they are still working on the culverts where the the original spill took place, but now they are working on the lake it self.  Most of the spill has been contained to the banks of the lake near where the culvert drains into the lake, but some of it has made it to other parts.

Zoo personel is standing by and monitoring the oil, just in case any water foul get into trouble. As far as the fish in the lake, they say because it is cold they tend to stay in the middle of the lake where it is deeper and warmer.

Now that lake does not feed into any other source, we are told so there is no danger of it getting into the water supply.
