Faylene Hickey

Faylene I. Hickey, 85, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Wisteria Place Nursing Center in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, officiated by Norman McVey. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Faylene was born on August 17, 1924 to Roy and Cora Bell Isbell in Ore City, Texas. She graduated from New Diana High School in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, O. W. "Bill" Hickey, on October 10, 1945 in Pasadena, Texas. They moved to Abilene in December 1945. Faylene was a member of University Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher in the 1950's. She was a member of the Abilene Garden Club.

A career opportunity for Bill in 1972 allowed them to return to East Texas roots for 20 years before retiring back to Abilene in 1992. During this period away, Faylene seized upon every opportunity to travel back to Abilene in order to be with family and friends who were her life.

Besides her parents, Faylene was preceded in death by her sister, Mable Dean Duffey of Gilmer, Texas. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bill Hickey of Abilene; one son and wife, Steve and Terry Hickey of Austin; one daughter and husband, Jim and Janice Tatum of Elm Valley; grandson, Larry Tatum of Abilene; grandson, Trey Good of Austin; granddaughter, Lisa Lackey of Dallas; granddaughter, Kristy Kahler of Austin; and great-grandsons, Justin Tatum of Dallas and John Tatum of Abilene.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.
