(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Stepping into Buchanan County Sheriff Mike Strong's office, you can see a room full of memories from a man who loves his job.
"You pretty much have to love what you do," said Sheriff Mike Strong. "You have to love this business or you don't stay in it very long."
For thirty-five years, Strong has been serving the public. Eight of those years, he has served as the Buchanan County Sheriff.
The memories are starting to add up.
"I have two photos on the wall," said Strong. "One is me pinning my badge on my son when he became a member of the police department. And the other one is a picture of my old friend. When I got this job, he came over and we had our photo taken together."
For the third time, Strong hopes to keep his seat as sheriff.
He will be facing off against challengers Pat Grove, Ron Fisher, and Bill Puett. Two of those candidates, Fisher and Puett, already work alongside him.
"They're all in this business to make a difference," said Strong. "And they're quality people."
But no matter what happens in the Sheriff's race, Strong won't have any regrets.
"Eight years has went by really, really fast. And it's been a pleasure," said Strong. "Win, lose, or draw, it's been a great ride. It's a lot of sad moments but a lot of rewarding moments also."
Buchanan County residents can vote for in the state primaries Tuesday, August 7th.
