At 88, Dorothy Richter was more active than most, but her age put her at risk heart disease.

"It was kinda hard to describe and I knew I wasn't feeling right. I had something funny up here. It was hard to describe and I still can't describe it."

"It's common. When she said she wasn't feeling well, something wasn't right. That should have tuned any physician to think heart, because everyone is different."

Cardiologist, Dr. David Garza says a woman having a heart attack, at any age, may not experience pain.

But heart disease is the leading cause of death for woman, mainly because people don't heed warning signs - because they might not be what you expect.

One thing that Dr. Garza wants everyone to remember is that heart attack symptoms for men- they're not always the same for women.

"Rougher courses, they can have recurring heart attacks more than men and then to survive them less. Even when we do procedures on them like bypass and stints."

Even with surgery, Dr. Garza says a relaxed lifestyle will help control the risk.
