Chiefs Like Tight End Tandem

ST. JOSEPH, Mo -- The Kansas City Chiefs are going through game prep as they get ready to play the St. Louis Rams Saturday Night.
It's another opportunity for KC prefect its two tight end look. 2012 will be a fresh start for the Chiefs.
And for their two tight ends.
Tony Moeaki and the newly-signed Kevin Boss.
Moeaki missed all of last season with an ACL injury.
"There's timing to get back, but that's what training camp is for as long as you're making progress each day that's the goal," said Chiefs Tight End Tony Moeaki.
Boss (right) spent just one year of his four year deal in Oakland before getting released.
"It's part of the business so I'm just excited about where I'm at now and I love being a part of this team," said Chiefs Tight End Kevin Boss.
And the Chiefs are glad to have him.
The NFL is often called a copy cat league.
Last year one growing trend became clear.
The two tight-end tandem.
"More teams are throwing to the tight end, and more teams are throwing to the tight end more often." said Sports Illustrated's Peter King. "Last year New England had two tight ends on the field for more than 1,000 plays. Which I believe has never happened in NFL history."
It certainly didn't happen last year in Kansas City.
Without Moeaki, Chiefs tight ends accounted for about one percent of Kansas City's passing offense.
Nick Carboni: "Like New England's Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, the Chiefs believe having two offensive playmakers at the tight end position like Boss and Moeaki, opens up the playbook."
Moeaki (left) had a promising rookie year in 2010 catching 47 passes for 556 yards and three touchdowns.
Boss' most productive year was 2008 with the Giants when he caught 6 touchdown passes.
Matt Cassel: "I think any time you have two tight ends that can do different stuff, it definitely gives you versatility from an offensive standpoint, and also from a personnel standpoint."
Boss and Moeaki are excited about the possibilities.
Moeaki: "We're not looking at numbers, we're just trying to win games here. You'll never hear us talk about numbers like that, we're just trying to help the team."
